Ruth Harries lives and works in Cardiff. She studied Textile Print at Cardiff College of
Art. She won 'Antiques of the Future Award' with Antiques and Homes Magazine in
2014, Welsh Artist of the Year in 2006; shortlisted prize-winner for the Texteil
Festival Holland; Textiles Award by Selvedge Magazine at 'Made by Hand'; Mixed
Media Award at Welsh Artist of the Year and Craft & Design Award at the National
Eisteddfod of Wales. Harries' work has been commissioned by the British Council
and The National Trust UK.
Harries is a founding member of 'Fibre Art Wales', a member of the Society for
Embroidered Work and a member of the 'Makers Guild in Wales'. She was awarded
an Arts Council of Wales Individual Project Grant in 2010 and 2014. She was
Artist in Residence at 'Cardiff Open' in 2012 and has been a selector for
'Welsh Artist of the Year' Competition and for the 'Cardiff Open' Exhibition.
Harries has exhibited both Nationally and Internationally, including Poland,
Hungary, Czech & Slovak Republics with 'Textile Art of Today', France where
her work represented Wales at the 'Interceltique de L'Orient, in 2005. She has
also shown in 'Pfaff Art Embroidery' at London, Paris, Netherlands and Sweden as
well as the International Contemporary Craft Biennale, Nantong, China.
She has shown widely in Group exhibitions, including 'Homelands' in Vermont USA;
'Welsh Artists' in Stuttgart, Germany; 'Made' London; 'The Big Residency',
Millennium Centre, Cardiff; 'Fibre Arts Wales' at Crafts Council of Ireland;
'Welsh Contemporaries' London and 'Spring Exhibition' at Society of Designer
Craftsmen Gallery London.
Her work is held in numerous private collections both Nationally and
Internationally.
Harries' work has been featured in publications including 'Embroidery Magazine',
Text in Textile Art' and 'Instinctive Quilt Art'.
